Our Signature Kalo Print has been a staple for the last few years and I really wanted to update it. Itʻs been long time coming (almost 2 years) and thanks to 2020, it finally happened!
I had time to work in my mala. I collected 18 native Hawaiian huli and I planted them in my mala with my keiki. As we watched them grow and learned how to malama our Kalo babies, I was inspired to use them as the lau in my updated design.
I am famous for not saving my work and I lost my first sketch but it worked out because not only did I create a new design that I fell in love with, I also learned how to create different color ways (thanks to Kea from @kakoucollective)!
Do you recognize the varieties? I am no master at identifying (I still need little markers) but in this design I have: Maui Lehua, Ulaula Kumu, Manini Uliuli, Moi Ulaula, Piko Kea, Mana Ulu, Pololu, and Lauloa Eleele Omaomao.
